432 Hz benefits: what the evidence says

Search "432 Hz" and you will find big promises about healing and harmony. Here is the honest version: what the research actually supports, what it does not, and why you can still enjoy it.

We make a 432 Hz app, so we have every reason to hype this up. We are not going to. The fastest way to lose your trust is to repeat claims that fall apart on inspection. So here is a straight read of where things stand.

The honest summary

There is no good evidence that 432 Hz heals the body, alters DNA, or is "the frequency of the universe." A few small studies hint at modest relaxation effects versus 440 Hz, but they are limited. The strongest, most defensible reason to listen to 432 Hz is simply that some people prefer how it feels.

What small studies suggest

A handful of small experiments have compared listening to the same music at 432 Hz and 440 Hz. Some reported slightly lower average heart rate, or that participants felt a touch more relaxed or focused after the 432 Hz version. A few looked at things like anxiety before medical procedures and found minor improvements.

Taken at face value that sounds promising, but the honest caveats matter: these studies tend to have few participants, short durations, and designs that are hard to fully blind (people sometimes notice a pitch difference). That makes it tough to separate a real effect of the tuning from the general calming effect of music, or from simple expectation. The reasonable reading is "interesting, not proven."

What has no good evidence

The louder claims do not hold up:

  • "432 Hz heals or repairs the body / DNA." No credible evidence supports this.
  • "432 Hz is mathematically the natural frequency of the universe / water / nature." These are numerology-style coincidences, not physics.
  • "440 Hz was a conspiracy to make people anxious." 440 Hz was standardised for practical coordination, with a messy, well-documented history and no hidden agenda.

If a page promises that a tuning will cure or transform you, treat it the way you would any health claim without solid studies behind it: with healthy skepticism.

What is genuinely real

Two things are real and worth keeping:

  • Music itself has well-documented effects on mood, stress and focus. That is not specific to 432 Hz, but it is real, and listening at 432 Hz still gives you all of it.
  • Preference is real. Plenty of listeners genuinely find a slightly lower reference pitch warmer and easier over long sessions. Liking how something sounds needs no further justification.

Why we take the honest line

Attune is built for people who want their music to sound the way they like, not for selling a wellness promise. We think that is also the position that ages well: no overblown claims to walk back, just a clean tool that lets you hear the difference and choose. If 432 Hz relaxes you, wonderful. If you prefer 440 Hz, that is one tap away too.
